Sneezing on your friends?
With the snow comes the flu season. People have heightened awareness right now about flu shots becoming scarce especially since the school districts have cut back on their vaccine clinics for faculty and staff. Personally, I've not had a flu shot as long as I can remember, and, my husband who used to get a flu shot each year hasn't needed one since he started a basic Shaklee regime.
Getting a flu shot is a personal decision, but regardless of what you decide, you can try some simple things below to help boost your immune system and keep your body strong and healthy this flu season:
- Wash your hands thoroughly & often.
- Keep your hands away from your eyes, nose, & mouth.
- When you sneeze or cough, do so in a tissue or the inside of your elbow/sleeve...instead of into your hands or on your friends ;)
- Drink plenty of water. Keeping your nasal passages moist will help better defend you against invading viruses.
- Practice healthy habits to keep your immune system strong: eat a balanced diet, take your Shaklee supplements, get plenty of sleep and exercise.
- Eat onions & garlic to help boost immunity--they are natural anti-bacterial and anti-viral foods.
- Eat antioxidant rich foods including berries and green vegetables.
- Avoid sugar. Studies have shown that your immune system is depleted for several hours after you eat a sugary-food.
- Avoid excessive dairy products--they can cause an overproduction of mucous, which supports bacteria growth.
- Limit your stress--90% of illness is stress-related.
- At holiday parties, avoid food trays that do not have a utensil in the dish.
- Pay special attention in crowds (shopping malls, concerts, buses, etc) as they are prime venues for spreading germs.
